We work hard in Room 217 on reading, writing, math and social studies! This month we are working on the 5th grade standards for these subjects and are preparing for the MCA tests in April. We are anxiously awaiting spring and warmer weather.
READING We focus on reading in our class. Our goal is to read and earn a minimum of 2 AR points per week with a goal of earning at least 50 AR points by the end of the year. Our class has read hundreds of books so far this year! Our goal is to have a party when everyone in our class earns their 50 points.
MATH In math we are beginning Unit 8 on adding and subtracting mixed numbers and multiplying fractions. We will be learning new math games, doing math art projects and working collaboratively during this chapter. We continue to review and retest on our secure skills goals.
WRITING We are working on research projects. Each student selected a person from history from the Explorer to Civil War time period. We have been reading and learning about that person. We are taking notes (in our own words) and will be using those notes to write a minimum of 5 paragraph research paper with a title page and bibliography. Students are required to use a minimum of three sources. SOCIAL STUDIES We completed our study of the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, and the Branches of Government. We are beginning to study Westward Expansion.
This is a great class! We are on a journey together to grow both in our academic learning and collaborative team work.
